How I have my e-mail so over 99% of Spam and Viruses are not downloaded

First let me explain some things about my setup that may be different from yours. I have DSL service, so if you have DSL or some other broadband service, this will work automatically as it does on my PC. If you are on a "dial-up" then you have to first make a connection to the net because, as it is now, "PopTray" does not auto dial. Once connected "PopTray" can check your mail accounts, then use your e-mail program.

The following pages are some screen shots of the simple settings for each program. Very few changes have to be made in order to achieve the results.

The first and most valuable thing you need to do is get a "Whitelist" made for your Outlook Express, K9, and PopTray.

The "Whitelist" needs to be in all three programs. No real need for a "Blacklist."

Avast Professional can be set to automatically delete viruses off the server. To have Spam automatically deleted you still need K9 and PopTray. The following is how to use Avast Home Edition.

The programs I use are:
1. Outlook Express
2. Avast Home Edition http://www.avast.com/ (other antivirus programs such as Norton may work also)
3. K9 http://keir.net/k9.html
4. PopTray version 3.1 (beta5) http://www.poptray.org/

It's important to set these programs up in this order for this to work.

1. Avast
2. K9
3. PopTray
4. Outlook Express
