| Sometimes you may have a picture that came out a little too dark and
wish is was lighter. There are different ways
you can change the photo to lighten it or even parts of the photo using
Layers. In the other tutorials you have been learning how you can
use layers to do various things with graphics. So now this is just
another example how to use your Layer tool. |
This photo was taken in the daytime but as you see parts of it
are so dark you can't see the details, so we can add some sunshine to it
with a new layer. (You can save and use this
photo to try.)
I'm using the PSP 6 on this so some screen shots may look different
than PSP 5, but the settings would be the same. First left click
the Layer tool palette button .
Now on the Layer palette add a new layer. I named it Yellow.
We need to fill this new layer with some yellow so set your color
palette to these colors.
Red 255, Green
255, Blue 192.
So this is the color we get
a light yellow.
Next, click the Flood fill tool button ,
then click the picture and the whole new layer turns to the color
yellow as the sample above.
| |
You now need to adjust this yellow layer so you can see the layer
below of the dark photo.
I adjusted this one to 29.
| |
I also made another new layer for the leaves that were very
light, and then used the Magic Wand tool
to select the leaves, then picked a green color to flood fill the leaves
and adjusted it.

After all that is said and done this is another
way to do this which is probably just as good if not even faster.
As you will learn, there is more than one way to accomplish an effect,
so here is the other way. Go to Colors>Adjust>Gamma Correction.
See screen shot below.
